February is here! I can't believe that we are half way through the school year!
There is quite a bit happening throughout the month of February. The kids just recently had another OMSI lesson. This time it was all about Dinosaurs! The kids and I absolutely loved it. Make sure to ask them all about it :)
Report cards will be coming home with your child this Friday, February 6th. Be sure to sign the envelope and send it back with you child asap. I will send another reminder on Friday.
On February 13th our class will be celebrating Valentines day. I sent the Valentines Day newsletter in my previous e-mail. If you did not get it for whatever reason, or you have questions, feel free to e-mail me.
Wednesday, February 18th is late opening once again. Half day kids will be with us until 2:15pm and will need a lunch or lunch money.
Finally, looking further ahead, the kids voted that they would like a "carnival" party for our next celebration. We must earn 20 class points to get this party and are currently at 15. While I have not yet picked a date I just wanted to put it out there for anyone who would like to volunteer on this day. It will be the last hour of school. We will have different stations with carnival like games (not super complex ones) and a treat. The biggest part of this celebration is FACE PAINTING. Your cute kids convinced me that this would just be the "greatest thing ever". Let me know if your interested in volunteering :)

1/5- 1/9
Welcome back!
I hope that you all had a wonderful break! Now it's time to get back to work. I'm so excited for all the learning that we have coming up throughout January.
This week we will be reading "Little quack" and working on the skill of comprehension. In math we are starting a new calender this week. I am also introducing a new activity called Number of the Day. We will be doing this a few times a work in order to build a stronger number sense. New centers will also be rolled out later this week.
MLK day is on January 19th. In social studies with Ms. M the kids will be learning about Martin Luther King. This can be a sensitive subject and therefore you may have some questions coming home from your child. She will be discussing the reason why we honor him.
I will be starting assessments this week as well and continue them throughout the month of January in order to prepare for report cards. This means that I will be pulling kids from the classroom during center time. If you would like to come in between 9:30am-11am to give us some extra support this month please send me an e-mail!
My last note is that we are once again running low on snacks. If you are able please pick something up the next time you are out shopping :)
I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far.

Auction Time
Parents,
I have a few updates to give you!
First, our auction project is complete and looks amazing :) all that is left is for it to be framed! A huge thanks again to Brandin and to Anna for organizing and managing this project. The auction will be on Nov. 14th and is Kentucky Derby themed. It is an amazing event that raises money for the school. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, drinks, and lots of fun! Outside of our classroom is a packet full of the different items that will be sold such as wine, blazer tickets, paint nights, yoga packages, etc. Come check it out!
If you have not yet had a chance to RSVP and purchase tickets to the Auction you can do so at Chapmanschoolauction.com
The book fair is happening all this week. It is located downstairs in the Art Room. Feel free to go exploring in the mornings, lunch, or after school with your child :)
Reminder: Library day is tomorrow (Thursday). Please remember to bring your child's library book back to school so that they can check out a new one!
Monday Nov. 10th: No school
Tuesday Nov. 11th: No school
Have a wonderful rest of your week!

This Week
Happy Monday,
I have a few reminders for you this week. First, be on the look out for your child's school photos! I am sending them home today. Picture retakes will be held this Wednesday, October 22. Please let me know if you child will be getting a retake.
Our field trip is coming up on Monday October 27th. Please make sure you have turned in the permission form. I will be sending out an e-mail to a few of you as a reminder!
Grandparents/ special friend day is on Tuesday October 28th. Grandparents/ Special friends will be invited into our classroom from 10-10:45. For this event we will be having a small fall celebration! If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Conferences are approaching. If you have not signed up please contact me.
Classroom Supplies
Our class is looking for highlighters! This is a tool that we use throughout the week. I would love to have one for each child.
Many of you have heard about our classroom BINGO board. I use this as a positive behavior reinforcement. On Friday's there are two bingo winners that get to select a small prize from the prize box. The more prizes in our box the better! Examples would be dollar tree items, pencils, erasers, toy cars, notepads, bouncy balls, etc.
I hope that you all have a wonderful week!

Art Auction
First I want to say thank you so much to all the parents that came to the meeting! It was very productive and I feel good about where our project is going. For those of you who could not make it and are interested in coming in to help produce the project here is some information:
Anna Dvortcsak (our room parent) will be creating a google doc in which you can sign up for a day to come in and help. Helping will including pulling children out in small groups to complete portions of the project.
We have decided to create a portland skyline painting! Here is an image that was found online to give you an idea of what it will look like..
The kids will be using watercolors to paint the skyline, while a very artistic parent (Brandin) has offered to use her skills and create Mount Hood and the back drop :)
I'm very excited about the project and I hope all of you are too!

October 8th
Happy Wednesday!
This week..
Math: We are working on sorting and graphing bugs.
Reading: We are practicing the strategy of re-telling. You can reinforce this strategy at home by reading with your child and then asking them to "re-tell" what happened throughout the story. Prompting their brains with a "picture walk" (turning the pages and looking at the pictures to remind them of the story) is a good way to re-tell the story.
Writing: What is a Writers workshop? What does it look like, sound like, and feel like? This week we are setting up our writers workshop environment!
Parents,
Next Monday, October 13th, I would like to hold a short meeting at the end of the day to discuss the Chapman Auction. For the Auction, our class will be producing an art project to sell during the live auction! It's time to get the ball rolling to figure out a project for our class. I really need a parent(s) who would like to lead this project, along with volunteers to help produce it. I have a few ideas, but I would love to hear some other creative ideas from my parents. This idea needs to be turned into the Auction committee asap.
There is no school this Friday, October 10th.
On October 27th, we will be taking our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. Please turn in your child's field trip permission form and money to me as soon as possible. There are scholarships available if you need one; just let me know.
If you have not yet signed up for a conference time please e-mail me! I will be sending out a reminder of your time and date as we approach the 29th and 30th.
SNACKS! Our snack supply is low. Our class needs some more healthy snacks. We have access to a refrigerator, so those kinds of snacks are fine. A few different suggestions are string cheese, fresh fruit such as apples/oranges, baby carrots, etc.
Remember to check the blog at least once a week!!
